The biggest of those was undoubtedly Tariq Lamptey, who completed a permanent switch to Serie A side Fiorentina. The defender, once tipped for great things in England, has struggled for consistency due to injuries and competition at Brighton. A move to Italy represents a fresh start and an opportunity to reignite his career at the highest level.
Julio Enciso, one of Brighton’s brightest young talents, also left on a permanent deal, joining French side Strasbourg. Enciso’s departure will be felt by many Albion supporters, as the forward had shown flashes of brilliance in his time at the club. Strasbourg, under new ownership and looking to build a youthful and dynamic side, will surely give him the platform to flourish.
Elsewhere, a number of players left on temporary deals. Facundo Buonanotte headed to Chelsea on loan, a move that raised eyebrows given the London club’s track record of stockpiling talent. Igor Julio reunited with Graham Potter at West Ham on loan, while Matt O’Riley, the promising midfielder, secured a loan move to Marseille to gain valuable experience in Ligue 1.
Rounding off the departures, Jeremy Sarmiento moved to Cremonese on loan with an obligation to buy, signalling that his Brighton chapter is likely over. All in all, the day confirmed what many suspected: Brighton’s window was defined by trimming their squad, trusting in their recruitment model, and ensuring that departing players were given pathways to continue their growth elsewhere.
